Dear 8th Grade Parents

We understand that the high school application process can feel overwhelming and raise many questions. Please know that we are here to support you and your child every step of the way.

The MySchools system will open on October 7, 2025. On that same evening, at 6:30 PM, we will hold a parent meeting where we will:

  • Explain the entire high school application process in detail
  • Answer your questions
  • Distribute the account creation codes needed for MySchools registration

Important Dates

  • October 7, 2025 – Registration process begins (MySchools system opens)
  • November 7 & 8, 2025 – TACHS exam (exact date depends on the school)
  • November 15 & 16, 2025 – SHSAT exam (exact date will be printed on your child’s SHSAT ticket)
  • March 5, 2026 – High school offers released

Please note: For private school applications other than TACHS, you must check directly with each school for their individual deadlines.

Important Notes

  1. While waiting for October 7, please begin researching schools and attending open houses.
  2. Be cautious of misinformation on social media (such as Applying to High School NYCgroups). While these groups can sometimes be useful, it is essential to fact-check all information through official sources.
  3. Xaverian High School, one of the most popular private school choices among Big Apple Academy graduates, has offered to arrange a special open house exclusively for Big Apple Academy families on September 30, 2025.
    • To make this event possible, we need enough confirmed interest. You will receive a survey shortly—please respond, even if you are not interested, so we can finalize arrangements.

We know the process can seem confusing and intimidating at first, but please remember – you are not alone. We will guide you through each step to ensure that you and your child will be, informed,  and feel supported.

We look forward to seeing you at the parent meeting on October 7, 2025, at 6:30 PM

Sincerely,
Yelena Sklyar
Dina Kuzminer
