Welcome to the Big Apple Academy website!

Big Apple Academy is an independent, nondenominational elementary and middle school. For more than 30 years we have had the privilege of serving students from multiple boroughs of our wonderful city. We are a vibrant learning community, in which individual approach to each student’s talents allows our experienced teaching team to ensure every child’s success. We always strive for excellence and our ongoing efforts have been nationally recognized as in 2016 Big Apple Academy was named an Exemplary High Performing elementary and middle school by the United States Department of Education. This National Blue Ribbon Award in the words of the Department of Education “affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing an entry or flying overhead is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.”

Every member of the teaching team and the administration at Big Apple Academy is committed to supporting all of our students in achieving academic excellence and building their character, allowing them to become global citizens. Big Apple Academy is well known for its challenging and rigorous academic programs that consistently lead students to the highest achievements. The success of our academics is evident in everything our gifted and dedicated students do, from scoring at top levels on standardized New York State exams, winning nation-wide Olympiads in multiple subject areas to being accepted into specialized high schools, such as Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and Staten Island Technical High schools, and successfully passing Regents Examinations.

Our students are our biggest success story. As we, Big Apple educators, reflect on our students’ past and present accomplishments, we realize that we give our students valuable and immeasurable skills. Our innovative and progressive programs allow students to construct their own knowledge. Students learn that their education is their responsibility and with this responsibility comes accountability. The underlying strength of the Big Apple Academy is the nurturing and challenging environment that allows students to take a wise proverb to heart, “Teachers open the door. You enter by Yourself”.
